We all know that one person who is incredibly organized – right?

They know where everything is and can grab it in an instant.

Caching is similar.

Every time you load a new web page, your browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, etc.) saves that version in its “cache.”

The next time you visit, BOOM – it loads crazy fast because the data is already waiting for you.

That sounds great, and for most internet users, it’s a brilliant way to provide websites that load faster.

Then, magically, your browser recaches the site every few days, and you’ll seamlessly start seeing the newer version, never realizing that you were viewing an older version.

Not a bad idea, right? Except for us web developers trying to show fresh changes to clients. See, this is why website changes aren’t visible right after they’re made.

Don’t worry – there’s a trick! I’ll teach you how to “clear” your cache.

When in doubt, clear it out.

Clearing your cache will allow you to see the very latest version of your website.

Ready to check out those fresh new website updates?

Here’s how to clear your cache…

  • Windows: Hold down Ctrl, and click the Reload button on your browser.
  • Mac: Hold down Command + Shift, and click the Reload button on your browser.

  • Windows: Hold down Ctrl + Shift + R.
  • Mac: Hold down Command + Shift + R.

  • Hold down Option + Command + E.

Microsoft Edge

  • Hold down Ctrl and press F5, or hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button.

*[Break in case of emergency] If you have difficulty seeing your changes even after clearing your cache, you can also try using a private browser window in conjunction with clearing your cache.

Wrapping it up

While caching is the secret tool that speeds up your web browsing experience, it’s also the Achilles’ heel that prevents you from seeing recent changes.

We hope this helps you see all your website changes right away. If you need to make a change to your website, contact Cornerstone Web Studio today for more information about our website services. We look forward to hearing from you!
